A Heavy Tree

Weighing in at a pound even, this tree is surprisingly heavy. Honey locust is about the densest wood I work with. It demands much of me but gives so much in return. The grain on this piece is heavy too, with all its deep pores and fine fissures making it quite clear what the construction material is. But all that wood-based bravado is tempered with the green, red, and silver colors. Finish in gloss by way of many coats of shellac.
