Big Old Oak Tree

This big old (11″ high) tree comes from an old big tree — the former Landis Great Oak, which was an ancient — well, at least 400 years old — white oak tree that used to stand at the Landis Arboretum. It is, as you’d expect, a very substantial piece of wood. Its glistening green sides harbor subtle grain details for the curious to explore. Red and gold bands of color decorate the branch tips, if you will. A couple of bold gold rings seem to have been slipped on the upper story, and both the spherical topper and base are left in natural oak grain. Many coats of shellac give it a lustrous gloss finish. A centerpiece if ever there was one.
