Big Tree

Strange of me: such a humble name for so grand a tree. I guess I felt the tree speaks, to the extent that it can, for itself. But I’ll add more detail anyway. Standing at 12″ high and spreading out to about 5″ at the base, this is a big hunk of wood. The profile is on the dramatic side for my trees, cutting in from the base rather quickly, and this gives quite a pleasing appearance. The semi-transparent dark green gives glimpses of the grain (sounds like a movie about a Russian famine) and the bands of red and gold work in tandem with the fine silver lines to deliver a 1-2-3 punch of visual pleasure. Many painstakingly (though painless enough) applied coats of shellac have produced a fine glossy finish. So, a grand tree.
