Deep Green And Grain

This piece displays my technique of putting down a layer of color that is intense, but which also allows some grain detail to show through. Here, the pretty busy grain is that of cherry. The branch undersides are in gold and the tips are lined in a darker green. I usually use a lighter color on the tips, say, gold or white, but I really like the darker look on this tree. The festive finial (good name for a bar) features a gold band and a bright red ball. Quite glossy finish in shellac.
