Deep Red & Gold

This tree comes to you from the trunk of a honey locust tree. It is decorated with a base layer of violet. That base gives deep color but doesn’t fill the deep pores of the wood entirely. So when I put on a wash coat of gold paint, it settled mostly into the pores, thus revealing the grain of the wood. And there’s very nice grain on this tree. The accents and topper are in silver and the underside is left natural. The finish is between a semi-gloss and a gloss, as all those pores tend to interrupt the sheen (which is what Marlon Brando did, rudely, in “Apocolypse Now”).
