Hollow Form In Apple

A ring of relatively smooth apple bark surrounds the small opening on this hollow vessel, and a long peninsula of the layered inner bark extends down about 2/3 of the way to the bottom. This piece was taken from a medium-size branch and includes the reddish heartwood and pith passing through the center, as it were. The sharply defined brown-black features are from woodpecker activity over the years. The finish consisted of a boiled linseed oil soaking followed by oil/urethane and buffed with oil+beeswax.
