Mostly Maple

This tree has a lot of exposed wood grain. The maple wood is at times quilted, knotty, and swirled. The two knots play off each other and the grain that runs around them gives rise to fissures that assert themselves through the paint, lending a nice texture to the piece. Sometimes I wish I was as assertive as those fissures. But I don’t envy the gloss; glossy skin is not a good look on me.
