Old Father Christmas

This tree came from a white cedar that was a real slow grower. The brown central oval—quite a striking feature—contains about 40 years of growth rings, and the lighter outer rings run about another 20. The linseed oil soaking the tree received really brought out the depth of all that grain. In terms of coloring, the bright red and green bands get progressively wider from top to bottom and the branch tips are accented in gold. A dignified gold sphere sits on top, as is fitting on a tree of this one’s maturity. Gloss finish in shellac.
