Purple Pine Pot

Pine can be a challenge to work to a smooth finish as it’s prone to “tear out” when you cut it in some directions, leaving you with a lot of sanding to do.  I spent a bit of time taming this beast, but I was rewarded with a silky smooth and shiny surface. After the deep purple dye was applied, the piece was submerged in boiled linseed oil for a week. This, I find, deepens the grain and, together with a clear gloss shellac finish, gives it an almost three dimensional appearance.
