The Darker Side Of Festive

There’s surely a place for grays and blacks in a holiday decorating scheme. Even so, I lightened up the dark phthalo green and bone black on this piece by filling the wood pores with iridescent silver. Speaking of black, the paint I used here is known as bone black. Not exactly an intuitive name, as carbon black would be. Turns out (a favorite phrase, for obvious reasons), that in olden days the waste ivory was charred to produce a black pigment. The stuff you learn. Anyway, go ahead and indulge your dark side. The glossy finish is more of the light side.
