Thinly Veiled Joy

A 7″ tree here, made from a colorful piece of maple. Most people think of maple as a very light-colored wood, but most old trees have quite a lot of dark wood to them. As with turkey, the darker stuff is better for you. I decided to put a thin coat of iridescent pearl on the whole tree, which gives it a wintry festiveness but allows the grain to poke through. Gloss finish on top of all the other carefully considered coloring.
