Walnut Vessel

This form got the oil soaking that I like to do on many of my pieces. I drop it in a large vat of boiled linseed oil and let it sit for about a week. After another week or so it’s ready for a finish. You might wonder how I can remember what got the oil soak treatment. It’ easy: I just smell the inside. Linseed oil has a great nutty aroma that lasts for many years. It also imparts a wonderful depth to the wood. In the case of this vessel, the lighter sapwood sections display much of the really interesting depth and color variations. A pleasing shape and gloss finish make this quite a nice display piece.
