Yew Bowl

I hesitate to call this a bowl but that’s the general form.  Some neighbors had this yew tree taken down and I grabbed as much as I could.  This wood is just phenomenal.  The tree itself was at least 90 years old.  The wood is quite hard and heavy for a softwood so it cuts and sands pretty cleanly, and the color speaks for itself.  The growth rings seem to radiate out from the two central trunks.  As soon as the piece was dry enough I got it soaking in oil.  This is one of the finest pieces I’ve produced to date.
