Yew Box With Silver-Green

Some of the oldest trees in the world are yews, and they can be very slow-growing. Occasionally, I come across a piece or two of yew, and find its wood is a pleasure to turn.  At just shy of 5″ tall and 2.5″ wide, this is a good-sized box. The wood came from a double branch section and you can see the double piths in the top and bottom. The silver-over-green bands break the natural wood surface into separate fields. Detailing is evident inside and out. The finish is 3 coats of shellac on the outside and pure tung oil (food safe and non-nut oil) on the inside.
