Zebra Box

This is a hand-turned wooden box of red oak. The pores of the wood have been filled with phthalo blue paint, providing a striking contrast to the bleached color of the piece. This box is unusual for me in that it has a base made from padauk, which is a deep reddish brown and really stands out nicely. The lid is a smooth suction-fit (it pops when you pull it open!) and there is detailing on the top and bottom surfaces. Perfect for jewelry, spices or any smallish doodad. Finish is three coats of shellac on the outside and pure tung oil on the inside.
